How to Share a GIF on Twitter

GIPHY has three great options to get your GIFs to play on Twitter:

Tweet a GIF using a GIPHY Link  

1. Copy the GIPHY URL link for any GIPHY GIF in giphy.com or the GIPHY mobile app.
2. Past the GIPHY URL link to the end of your tweet.
3. Your GIF will play on Twitter once your tweet is published.

Upload a GIF to Twitter Directly on Desktop

Before proceeding, make sure you are signed into your Twitter account on the device that you’re using to share the GIF. If you’re not signed in, there will be a pop-up to authorize your account.

Note: Make sure you select “Always allow pop-ups from GIPHY.”

1. Click the Twitter upload button located on the GIF detail page. The Twitter upload button is located on the right hand side of the GIF under “Share It!” in the GIF detail page.
2. Type in your caption.
3. Click ‘Tweet’ and your GIF will upload directly and play in-line.
4. Note: Due to Twitter’s file size restriction, we will automatically downsize any GIF that is over 3MB.

Upload a GIF to Twitter Directly on the GIPHY App

1. In the GIPHY mobile app, tap on the  located under any GIF.
2. Once you tap the button, it will open a selection of social sharing buttons — tap on the Twitter button.
3. Type in your caption. 
4. Click 'Tweet' and your GIF will upload directly and play in-line. 
5. Note: Due to Twitter's file size restriction, we will automatically downsize any GIF that is over 3MB. 

Use the GIF Button in the Twitter compose box

1. Open the compose box in your Twitter profile
2. Click the GIF icon to search for and select a GIF from GIF library.
3. Once the GIF is selected, the GIF will attach to your Tweet. You can only choose one GIF per Tweet.
4. Click Tweet button to post the Tweet to your profile.
