Tagging is part of the engine of GIPHY: when you search for a GIF, you are actually searching for that GIF's tags. Tags on GIPHY should not contain a hashtag, and punctuation of any type is unnecessary.
Here are some ideas for how to tag your GIFs and Stickers!
Tag Your Uploads:
- Add GIFs and Stickers via Upload or Create and locate the Add Tags field
- Type in tags one by one or use a comma to enter multiple tags at once
- Click the plus sign or hit Enter after each tag
- If you are uploading multiple GIFs and Stickers at once, the tags will be available on each piece of content you upload.
Edit Your Tags:
- Hover over the GIF to reveal and select the rainbow "edit" pencil
- Type in tags one by one or use a common to enter multiple tags at once
- Click the plus sign or hit Enter after each tag
What To Tag:
Tags should describe the things pictured in the GIF or Sticker. Try adding specifics like the subject’s name and actions, catch phrases, colors or other themes. Tags should also talk about how you react to the image, how you believe the subject is reacting in the image, and any other details you think are pertinent. You should try to think of the ten best tags for each of the GIFs and Stickers you upload.
What Not To Tag:
If you try to enter more than twenty tags, you will receive an error. You may not use tags as a way to spam inappropriate search results. Make sure that your tags are relevant to the GIF or sticker in question. Also, while you are welcome to create tags that no one else has ever thought of, you should not create tags that target another person in a negative way, or use any language that violates our Community Guidelines in any tag.
