Tags should describe what's pictured in the GIF, Sticker, or Clip. You should add accurate and relevant tags so people can find your content at the right moment. The more accurate your tags, the more likely that your content will be used! The tags that you add should reflect the following:
• The subject’s name
• The subject’s actions
• Description of what is happening in the content
• Words spoken or text in the content
• How people would react to the image or text
• The emotions being displayed by subjects of the image
• Popular catch phrases associated with the content
You should try to think of the ten most relevant tags for each piece of content that you upload.
Prohibited tags:
GIPHY’s Community Guidelines prohibits adding inaccurate tags to make your content appear more often in irrelevant results. Tags designed to trick our search engine and generate inaccurate results can cause your content to be removed from our search results entirely. Our Community Guidelines also prohibit threatening and hateful content. Be sure to follow the guidelines listed below when tagging your content:
• Do not tag any content with hateful phrases, racial epithets, or language that violates our Community Guidelines
• Do not add tags that change the context of the content to something hateful or harmful
• Do not add tags that violently target an individual or entity
• Do no tag irrelevant single letters
• Do not add tags representing popular and common searches that do not apply to the content
• Do not add tags that are contrary to what appears in the content
• Do not add tags that are contrary to the feelings, emotions, or reactions generated by the content
• Do not tag the names of competitors
It is important that your tags are relevant to the GIF, Sticker, or Clip in question. Tags or content that violate these guidelines may be removed.
