GIPHY prioritizes positive user experiences and content safety. To maintain this standard, we have established policies defining the types and categories of advertisements permitted on our platform. These Advertising Standards outline which types of advertisers are prohibited from the platform, along with which types of content are prohibited from individual advertisements.
Prohibited advertising clients:
• Politicians, including political campaigns and independent organizations created to advocate for specific politicians
• Prescription medications or controversial healthcare and medicines, such as medical cures, miracle weight loss pills, or prescription narcotics
• Pornography aggregating, sharing, and hosting platforms, including non-consensual intimate imagery
• Religious organizations
• Any entities or individuals threatening public health with credible violence or misinformation, including news organizations that do not meet industry accepted basic journalistic standards
• Human rights violators, terrorist organizations, violent extremists, hate groups, mass murderers, militia groups
• Organized crime organizations, illegal drug operations, organizations or individuals soliciting sex acts
• Weapons manufacturers
• Tobacco product producers
• Organizations promoting pyramid schemes
• Entities selling illegal products or services, such as counterfeit goods or documents, human trafficking, and illegal wildlife trade
• Entities that otherwise violate GIPHY’s Community Guidelines with their content and messaging
Prohibited content in advertisements
• Illegal content, such as intellectual property violations, illegal drugs, and terrorism and violent extremism
• Content featuring weapons, ammunition, and explosives
• Content featuring tobacco and related products
• Violent or threatening content, such as threats of physical violence, coordinating or condoning physical violence, images or references to self harm, violence against animals, images of stalking or bullying and harassment
• Graphic content, such as images of medical procedures, serious injuries, or featuring blood and gore
• Deceptive content, such as unsubstantiated medical claims or debunked misinformation
• Offensive content, such as hate speech or symbols, and anything used in the context of insulting someone on the basis of race, religion, gender, ethnicity, national origin, age, disability, disease or sexual orientation
• Explicit sexual content, such as pornography or nudity, sexual solicitation, sexualization of minors, sexual explicit language, and sex toys
• Images of crisis events or controversial events, such as pandemics, wars, social or political uprising
• Content that features private information
• Content featuring electoral or political promotions
